How the numbering works

Nepal uses the Indian numbering system, which groups digits differently from the Western system: after the first three digits, groups are two digits wide — thousand, lakh (1,00,000), then crore (1,00,00,000) — rather than every three digits (thousand, million). NPR 1,33,334 reads as "One Lakh Thirty-Three Thousand Three Hundred Thirty-Four Rupees", not "one hundred thirty-three thousand".

This converter is provided for convenience — always double-check the words against the numeric amount before signing a cheque.
