The figures above are based on the 25% windfall tax under Section 88A of the Income Tax Act, 2058.

Why tax is deducted from prizes

Under Section 88A of the Income Tax Act, 2058, winnings of a lottery or gift nature attract a 25% windfall tax. This tax is deducted at source, so the winner is paid only the net amount and does not have to pay any tax separately.
