Frequently asked questions
The essentials — eligibility, registration, draws, and prizes.
The करदाता प्रोत्साहन उपहार कार्यक्रम (Taxpayer Incentive Gift Program) is a Government of Nepal initiative run by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), under a procedure approved by the Ministry of Finance — करदाता प्रोत्साहन उपहार कार्यक्रम सञ्चालन कार्यविधि, २०८३. It started on Shrawan 1, 2083 (17 July 2026) and rewards ordinary shoppers who take a proper VAT bill for their purchases, encouraging more businesses to issue bills and pay tax. Official results and registration happen only on IRD's own portal, prize.ird.gov.np.
Yes. A personal PAN (Permanent Account Number) is required to be eligible to redeem a prize with IRD. IRDCoupon never collects or stores your PAN — we only remind you that you'll need it when claiming. If you don't have a personal PAN yet, get one from IRD before you claim.
Any personal, non-commercial purchase over NPR 100 that comes with a genuine VAT/PAN invoice from a registered seller is eligible — groceries, clothing, restaurant meals, and similar everyday purchases all qualify, as long as the bill is issued in your name for personal use, not for business.
Some bill types can never take part, even with a valid VAT invoice: business or commercial purchases, bills issued to government or public bodies, air tickets, internet and telephone bills, electricity bills, and vehicle or freight/transportation bills.
If you pay by cash, you must self-register the bill yourself on the IRD portal, entering the invoice number, the seller's PAN, the bill date, the total amount, the payment type, your name, and your mobile number. If you pay by QR code or another digital payment method, the transaction itself counts as your entry — you don't need to type it in separately. Purchases made at large stores connected to IRD's CBMS system are also captured automatically.
Draws are held twice a month, on the 1st and 16th of every Nepali (BS) month. Each draw has a daily prize of NPR 1,33,334 gross, which becomes NPR 1,00,000 net after the mandatory 25% windfall tax. The 16th of the month also carries a fortnightly bumper prize of NPR 10,00,000 gross, or NPR 7,50,000 net after tax.
No. IRDCoupon never submits anything to the IRD portal on your behalf. We only help you photograph, store, and organize your bills, and prepare the exact fields you'll need — you always copy those details across and submit the registration yourself, directly on prize.ird.gov.np.
Not automatically. A "match" only means the details of your bill line up with an entry on IRD's own published winner list — it is not a declaration that you have won. Only IRD's official results are authoritative. Always verify the match yourself against the published list on prize.ird.gov.np and follow the official claim process before treating it as a win.
Winners must claim their prize within 15 days of the result being published. You claim in person at an Inland Revenue Office (IRO), bringing the original bill that matched the winner list — a photo or copy is not accepted.
We understand this information is sensitive, and IRDCoupon is built to handle it carefully. We never collect or store your personal PAN. For details on what we collect, how it's stored, and your rights over it, read our Privacy Policy.
No. IRDCoupon is an independent, unofficial companion app and is not built, operated, or endorsed by IRD or the Government of Nepal. For the full picture of what we are — and aren't — see our Disclaimer.
Glossary of key terms
Program vocabulary, explained in plain language.
- VAT bill vs. handwritten estimate / informal slip
- A VAT bill (or PAN invoice) is an official, sequentially numbered receipt issued through a registered seller's billing system, carrying the seller's PAN and VAT details — this is the only kind of bill eligible for the program. A handwritten estimate, informal slip, or "kacha" bill is not issued through a registered VAT/PAN system and cannot be registered for the program, no matter the amount.
- PAN
- Permanent Account Number — the unique identifier IRD issues to individuals and businesses for tax purposes. A personal PAN is required to register bills and claim prizes under this program; a business PAN used for commercial purchases does not qualify.
- CBMS
- Centralized Billing Monitoring System — IRD's system that connects large stores' point-of-sale billing directly to IRD's servers in real time. Purchases made at CBMS-connected stores are captured automatically as program entries, so you don't need to self-register them.
- Windfall tax
- A 25% tax charged on lottery and prize winnings under Section 88A of the Income Tax Act, 2058. It is deducted before the prize is paid out, which is why the amount you actually receive is lower than the gross prize announced for each draw.
- गोला प्रथा (Gola Pratha)
- The lottery/draw system IRD uses to randomly select winning bills from all valid entries for a given period — literally the "draw by lot" method. It's the mechanism behind every daily and fortnightly draw in this program.
- IRO
- Inland Revenue Office — the local IRD office where a verified winner must go in person, with the original winning bill, to claim their prize within the 15-day deadline.
IRDCoupon is unofficial and not affiliated with IRD or the Government of Nepal. For official information, always refer to prize.ird.gov.np.
